Master’s Program in Theater Admission Requirements

Application Requirements

  1. Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree from universities in Türkiye or from universities abroad recognized as equivalent by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).
  2. Applicants must successfully pass the Scientific Examination conducted by our Department.
  3. For English language proficiency:
    • Applicants must have obtained a minimum score of 66 on the TOEFL iBT examination within the last two years or a minimum score of 55 on the YDS or YÖKDİL examinations.
    • Applicants who do not have the required English language scores must take Yeditepe University's English Proficiency Examination and obtain a minimum score of 50. Applicants who fail to achieve this score must attend the English Preparatory Program before starting the program.
    • Graduates of Yeditepe University who have completed the English Preparatory Program must document that they have successfully completed the B2 level or have obtained at least 50 points on the Preparatory School Proficiency Examination. Graduates who do not meet this requirement must also take Yeditepe University's English Proficiency Examination and obtain a minimum score of 50. Those who fail to do so must attend the English Preparatory Program before beginning the program.
    • In addition, no ALES score is required for applications to the Theatre Master's Program.


Scientific Examination


The Scientific Examination consists of the following sections:

  • Application Portfolio (The application portfolio must be submitted with a signature to the Department of Theatre during the Master's application process or sent by e-mail to [email protected]. Applicants with incomplete application documents will not be allowed to take the examinations.)
    • Curriculum Vitae with photograph
    • At least one Letter of Recommendation from a professor or associate professor who taught the applicant during their undergraduate studies
    • Posters and video recordings of at least two productions in which the applicant actively participated
    • A Statement of Purpose not exceeding 500 words (A document explaining why the applicant prefers this master's program and how their studies will contribute to the department and the field.)
    • A Research Proposal consisting of at least 5 and no more than 10 pages, presenting the applicant's preliminary work on the intended research topic.
  • Written Examination
  • Stage Examination
    • One drama/tragedy performance (maximum 5 minutes) selected from published plays in Turkish or world theatre literature
    • One comedy performance (maximum 5 minutes) selected from published plays in Turkish or world theatre literature
  • Application Portfolio Evaluation: A face-to-face oral interview will be conducted with the applicant.

The total score obtained from all examination stages will determine the applicant's admission ranking.

The Stage Examination and the Application Portfolio Evaluation will be video recorded.
