Call for Student Applications: 2026–2027 CFA Institute Research Challenge

Call for Student Applications: 2026–2027 CFA Institute Research Challenge

The subject company for the 2026–2027 CFA Institute Local Research Challenge, organized by  CFA Society Istanbul, has been announced as Borusan Pipe (BRSAN).

The CFA Institute Research Challenge is an international competition that provides university students with hands-on experience in financial analysis, company valuation, equity research, report writing, presentation skills, and professional ethics. During the competition, students analyze a publicly traded company, prepare an equity research report, and present their findings to a panel of judges.

The entire competition process is conducted in English. Therefore, applicants are expected to be able to actively contribute to English report writing, financial analysis, and presentation activities.

The local competition process is expected to begin in mid-September 2026. As in previous years, the process may require an intensive preparation period and may continue until March 2027. If successful in the local challenge, the winning team may proceed to the subsequent stages of the CFA Institute Research Challenge, including the sub-regional / regional / continental stages and, depending on performance, the global final stage. The global final is generally held around May. Therefore, students applying to participate are expected to attend meetings, training sessions, mentoring activities, report preparation, presentations, and other competition-related activities regularly and without interruption.

Students interested in participating are encouraged to apply by forming teams of 3–5 students. Students who are interested but do not yet have a team may also submit an individual expression of interest; however, placement into a suitable team cannot be guaranteed.

Applicants are generally expected to meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student at our university,
  • Not hold the CFA charter,
  • Not have previously participated in the CFA Institute Research Challenge,
  • Not have full-time professional work experience in investment management / investment research,
  • Meet the local competition rules to be announced by CFA Institute and CFA Society Istanbul.

The number of teams that may represent each university may be limited. In forming and selecting teams, academic suitability, motivation, interest in financial analysis and valuation, written and oral communication skills, ability to work in a team, and availability to commit time to the competition process will be taken into consideration.

The detailed competition calendar, final registration process, and local competition rules will be shared later in the Fall 2026 semester by  CFA Society Istanbul .
